Jennie and Richard’s North Coast Wedding

When Jennie and Richard contacted me about photographing their wedding, their brief could not have been simpler: natural, relaxed, candid, fun. A few weeks prior, we got together in Mountsandel Wood for a lovely ‘Get to Know You’ session, also known as a pre-wedding photoshoot which you can view by clicking the link!

This intimate wedding on the North Coast encapsulated the very definition of what it means to appreciate family and friends. Starting off in Portrush Town Hall, with views over Barry’s Amusements, West Bay and harbour and progressing to a private outdoor terrace at the opulent Me & Mrs Jones boutique hotel, this wedding had everything that you could possibly want for your special day!

The Wedding

The morning started off at the lovely town hall situated on Mark Street in Portrush. Jennie and Richard opted to not go for the traditional bride/groom prep and instead wanted to focus on the wedding itself (according to Jennie, they already see each other getting dressed every day!)

The wedding guests began to arrive and take their seats, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the bride and groom. All of a sudden, they were greeted by “Love and Marriage” by D-Shore, which was their cue to stand before Jennie and Richard made the short walk down the aisle as their adoring family and friends watched on.

The most impactful moment of the day; after the newly wed couple said their vows and sealed it with a kiss, Jennie’s daughter gave one of the loveliest speeches that I have had the pleasure of hearing at a wedding ceremony. As you can see from the following photographs, it brought the entire room to tears …including the wedding photographer!

With only a few days to go before the wedding, Jennie dropped the bombshell that she and Richard would be being transported from the ceremony to the reception on the backs of Harley-Davidsons - These guys sure knows how to make an entrance! In true Harley-Davidson fashion, these mean machines could be heard long before they were seen, which drew the unsuspecting wedding guests to the roadside in anticipation of whats to come.

As a Portrush couple through-and-through, Jennie and Richard had only made one request for bridal portraits - they desperately wanted to get photographs outside Barry’s Amusements. With the help of a very kind attended at the Helter Skelter, we managed to steal a few brief moments on the iconic slide that has adorned the outside of the amusements for decades.

When discussing the style of photographs that the couple wanted, the brief was very clear: natural, relaxed and fun - all things that describe them as a couple. Jennie loved the idea of having some modern wedding photographs in the ‘hipster’ style. We went through the some beautiful, contemporary couples’ poses and then it was time for the… just prior to starting this shoot I asked Richard to twirl Jennie unexpectedly. As you can see, this worked a treat and created some fabulous photographs.

It' goes without saying that, on the 28th May 2022, there were no cooler couple on the North Coast of Ireland than Jennie and Richard. Adorned in leather jackets and biker helmets, they were the epitome of rock’n’roll. A few quick photographs on the Harley’s and it was almost time to depart for the opulent Me & Mrs Jones Boutique Hotel.

Time for speeches! Richard could not have been any cooler, calmer or more collected he brought the house down with a speech that was a rollercoaster of romance, love and appreciation for Jennie, their families and their dearest friends. Safe to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Jennie comes from a musical family and on this occasion, her dad was the one providing the evening entertainment as a keen trad singer and multi-instrumentalist. Jennie was keen to get some photographs of him playing so I made certain to steal him away for a few brief moments as he tuned his guitar and played a few chords.
