Sum Up Being a Wedding Photographer in One Sentence…
I recently listened to an episode of the This is Reportage Podcast where the guest and fabulous Columbian Photographer Rocio Vega said something incredibly poignant that stopped me in my tracks…
//
A moment is like a wave and I’m searching for the highest peak
//
In one eloquent sentence, Rocio has summed up the very essence of what it means to be a wedding photographer; anticipating a moment, letting it unfold and capturing a crescendo of genuine emotion and human interaction. One second too early or too late and the magic of the moment might be lost forever.
When shooting a wedding, I spend as much time listening as I do watching for moments to unfold. This method takes practice, experience and most importantly patience. As a photographer, one of the worst possible things is interrupting a moment! I pride myself on being able interpret a situation and to make a photograph without anyone even so much as suspecting that they’re having their picture taken - this is the absolute best way possible to capture authentic, candid moments and something that is ingrained in every single aspect of my photography.
